We have worked on a few toolbox upcycle projects recently. When I was researching I found lots of good ideas so thought I would share some of my favourite ones on here.
1. Side unit
This is one of my projects that I have worked on over lockdown. It's an unusual shaped toolbox and it took me a while to figure out what to do with it but we have made a side unit and shelf out of it.
Here is what I did with the toolbox:
Take off the lid
Fixed repairs with wood glue - I used Gorilla glue
Sanded down wood with a hand sander using 50 grit/80 grit/120 grit
Wiped down with a homemade wood cleaner (Add 1 cup water/1 cup oil/ 1 tbsp of oil to a spray bottle)
Apply 2 coats of Colron Refined Beeswax in natural with an old rag (read instructions on tin)
Attached 4 hair pin legs to the corners of the bottom of the toolbox
Attached the lid to the wall
2. Bathroom Storage
Kim over at Salvaged living took an old toolbox and made it in to storage for a bathroom which I also love. Head over to her blog to find out what she did to get this look.
3. Bookcase
This is a really cute one. Using an old toolbox as a bookcase is a great way to showcase your books, even better if they are old books like this bookcase holder on Etsy. Head over to leapinglemming to check out and purchase this toolbox.
4. Condiment and cutlery holder
If you are anything like me, I get a bit put off eating outside because it's such an effort to bring everything outside! Cindy over at countryroad407 has come up with a solution with her toolbox upcycle. Using a toolbox to hold condiments, cutlery and plates is such an easy way to get everything out in one trip.
5. Art/craft storage
Another one of my projects during lockdown was my arts/craft storage using an old toolbox.
Here's what I did with the toolbox:
Wash the toolbox with soapy water and a cloth
Oiled the hinges because they were very stiff
Repainted using Hammerite metal paint: Hammered Blue
Add your craft bits
6. Planter
Love this idea too over at homeroad, Susan has made a planter out of her old toolbox. This would definitely brighten up a patio and is definitely something I would love to do! Head over to homeroad to find out how to turn your toolbox in to a planter.
7. Towel rail
How beautiful is this towel rail that Laura from Findinghomefarms has made out of an old toolbox. I love the way they have used the sections in the toolbox as shelves. The flowers and the mirror give it a real rustic feel too.
So there we have it, 7 toolbox upcycle ideas. Hope you enjoyed reading.
